Course Overview

The Graduate Diploma of Engineering (Mechanical) is an advanced qualification designed to strengthen your technical capability and deepen your understanding of modern mechanical engineering practice. It focuses on the practical application of engineering principles used across a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, energy, transport, mining, oil and gas, aerospace, agriculture, and automation.

This program is intended for engineering professionals and technical practitioners who want to build on their existing knowledge and develop more advanced skills in mechanical systems, analysis, design, and industrial applications. It reflects current industry needs and focuses on solving real engineering problems using structured, systematic approaches.

You will develop a stronger ability to understand how mechanical systems behave, how they are designed, and how they can be improved for safety, performance, reliability, and efficiency.

Graduates of this program will be able to gain:

  • Stronger technical knowledge in advanced mechanical engineering areas
  • Practical, industry-relevant skills guided by experienced engineering professionals
  • Improved capability in analysing and solving complex engineering problems
  • Greater confidence in applying engineering tools, methods, and standards
  • Opportunities to expand professional networks across engineering disciplines and regions
  • A globally recognized graduate-level qualification in mechanical engineering

These outcomes support both career progression and transition into more senior technical or project-based engineering roles.

Program Details

The Graduate Diploma of Engineering (Mechanical) builds advanced capability across core areas of mechanical engineering practice. The program focuses on how engineering knowledge is applied in real industrial contexts, particularly where systems are complex, multidisciplinary, and performance-critical.

You will explore how mechanical systems are designed, analysed, and maintained across a range of applications. This includes understanding how materials behave under stress, how heat and energy are transferred, and how fluids and mechanical power systems operate in industrial environments.

The program also develops your understanding of engineering decision-making, including risk, safety, efficiency, and sustainability considerations. Emphasis is placed on structured engineering methods and the ability to apply knowledge to real-world design and operational challenges.

The program is composed of 8 units. These units cover a range of aspects to provide you with maximum practical coverage in the field of Mechanical Engineering. Please refer to the current teach-out program structure
here.

Hear from our students

The delivery methodology and the information available in the e-library can’t be beaten. The other important aspect of online education is recorded lectures. You can review the tutorial and lessons on repeat when you need to understand the concept.
M Masemola, South Africa
What I liked most about the course and EIT is the flexibility is offered regarding education. It gave me the opportunity to study and work full-time.
C Groenewald, South Africa
I enjoyed interacting with students all around the world, and seeing how the principles I have learned applies to them as well.
S Zeelie, South Africa
My line of work requires me travel quite often. I could not attend every class due to my remote locations, but still I could recap and stay on top of the study material thanks to the recordings. Also, all the Instructors were world class.
